Yemeni President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi ordered on Monday his forces to retake the capital Sana’a from the Houthis militants as clashes continued to rage in the city. "The president has ordered Vice President Ali Mohsen al-Ahmar, who is in Marib (east of Sana’a), to activate military units and advance towards the capital," an official in the presidency told AFP, speaking on condition of anonymity. He ordered his vice president to start the offensive on several fronts in Sana’a, especially the Kholan region. The Yemeni military has already mobilized seven brigades in Marib in order to head to Kholan and advance on Sana’a. Clashes erupted on Wednesday between the Houthi militants and supporters of former President Ali Abdullah Saleh. Saleh on Saturday called for opening a new chapter in ties with the Saudi-led coalition aimed at restoring legitimacy in Yemen, effectively ending his three-year alliance with the Houthis. The Yemeni government on Monday also reached out to Saleh and his supporters with an offer of amnesty. "The president will soon announce a general amnesty for all those who collaborated with the Houthis in recent months and who have retracted that allegiance," Prime Minister Ahmad Obaid bin Daghr said. "We will stand with everyone who stands against the Houthis... in the face of the Iranian threat," he said. Residents in Monday reported that the fighting had spread outside the capital. Tribal sources in Salehs hometown Sanhan, south of Sana’a, on Monday reported intense overnight fighting between the Houthis and Saleh loyalists.
