The Yemeni Ministry of Human Rights announced on Monday that it has sent a report of Houthi militia violations in the capital Sanaa to United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid bin Ra’ad Zeid al-Hussein. The ministry of the legitimate government sent a memo that included a preliminary list of crimes and violations committed by the Houthis against the Yemeni people in general and leaders and members of the General People’s Congress in particular, reported the Yemeni news agency SABA on Monday. The Houthis have continued to commit grave crimes and violations against the people ever since they kicked off their coup. These violations intensified in wake of the past two week’s developments that led to the murder of their coup partner former President Ali Abdullah Saleh and other important members of the Congress. The Houthis have committed arbitrary arrests, kidnappings and torture, carried out bombings and destroyed homes in a clear violation of International Humanitarian Law, Universal Declaration of Human Rights and UN resolutions, amid international silence over these crimes. The ministry recorded 9,958 Houthi violations against civilians since August 2014 and until July 2017 in regions it seized in Maarib. It demanded that the international community designate the Houthi militias as terrorist due to their ongoing crimes against innocent civilians.
