The foreign ministers of six Arab countries are set to meet in Jordan next month to tackle the ongoing crisis regarding the United States’ recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, said a senior Arab League official on Wednesday. General Secretary of the League Ahmed Abul Gheit will also attend the meeting, which will be held on January 6. Abul Gheit’s aide, Hussam Zaki said during a press conference that the foreign ministers of each of Jordan, Egypt, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Morocco will attend the talks, reported Egypt’s MENA news agency. Arab foreign ministers recently held an emergency meeting in order to tackle US President Donald Trump’s December 6 move on Jerusalem. They stressed that his measure hampers peace efforts. Palestinian officials meanwhile said that Washington had disqualified itself as a serious partner in the peace talks. Washington’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel sparked wide outrage across the Arab and Muslim worlds. The United Nations General Assembly on Friday adopted a non-binding resolution that considers Trump’s decision null and void.
