Three terrorists were arrested and an explosive was detonated by the military in central Sinai, announced an Egyptian military spokesman on Tuesday. The military arrested three “takfiri” elements as they were monitoring the troops’ activity, said the spokesman in a statement released on the army’s official Facebook page. The troops then discovered and detonated an explosive that was being prepared to target the military in central Sinai. They also uncovered the hideouts of the terrorists, seizing fuel and destroying six cannabis farms and a warehouse storing around a ton of the narcotic. In addition, the military confiscated a bus that was carrying motorcycle spare parts that were being transported to the terrorists. The army and security forces have for years been combating terrorists in North Sinai. In 2014, the Ansar Beit al-Maqdis group that is active in the area pledged its allegiance to the ISIS terrorist group. It later changed its name to the “Sinai State”.
