King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRelief) sent a convoy of 70 trucks, carrying nearly 1,200 tons of aid, to six Yemeni governorates, half of which fall under the control of Iran-backed Houthi militias. The aid has been supplied as part of the Yemen Comprehensive Humanitarian Operations (YCHO) plan that was launched on January. General Supervisor of KSRelief Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz al-Rabiah said in a press statement that the center sent the convoy upon the directives of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz. He pointed out that the 70 trucks, carrying 1,200 tons of foodstuffs and other important aid, headed to Hadramaut, al-Jawf, Sana’a, Bayda’, Abyan, and Taiz governorates. “Saudi Arabia wants to see stability, prosperity and development in Yemen. The announcement of the YCHO is a strong sign of how serious we are in Saudi Arabia about improving the situation in Yemen,” Rabiah said. “We are collaborating very closely with the UN and other international agencies, and we hope to see Yemen reach a political solution and accelerate its development very soon.” “The center operates within a clear and specific mechanism and coordinates with the YCHO Support Center, the Coalition Forces, the Yemeni Supreme Relief Committee, the United Nations and our partners,” Rabiah added, explaining that KSRelief has offices in Yemen. "The center relies on good monitoring and evaluation programs, and we have international and local partners for monitoring and evaluation." Rabiah stressed that the center and the UN organizations face challenges such as looting and robbery, “but Saudi Arabia is always keen to overcome these challenges to reach all Yemeni governorates.” Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Yemen and Executive Director of the YCHO Support Center Mohammed Saeed al-Jaber said that aid flows to Yemen have expanded continuously since the launch of the operations plan, which has benefited over 550,000 people to date. “Today’s aid shipment is the latest of many deliveries of essential relief to the brotherly Yemeni people made possible by the opening of 22 access points by land, sea and air,” Jaber explained.
