Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz telephoned on Monday US President Donald Trump to discuss regional affairs and the official visit to the US by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, reported the Saudi Press Agency on Tuesday. King Salman expressed to Trump his gratitude to the warm welcome shown to Prince Mohammed during his visit to the US, hailing the signing of many important deals that will benefit their countries. Trump, for his part, confirmed the success of the visit, saying that the Saudi royal had left a great impression on American officials, which reflects the special Saudi-American ties. King Salman and Trump also reviewed the latest regional and international developments, most significantly the latest unrest in the Palestinian territories. King Salman stressed the need to move forward the Middle East peace process, asserting the Kingdom’s firm and constant stance on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and the legitimate rights of the Palestinians and their right to establish their own independent state whose capital is Jerusalem. He also voiced his gratitude to the White House statement that strongly condemned the Iran-backed Houthis militias in Yemen. He accused the militias on continuing their hostile acts towards the Kingdom, stressed that Riyadh is keen on reaching a political solution to the Yemeni crisis and providing the people with humanitarian relief. Trump meanwhile underlined the need to confront Iran’s threat to the region, saying it is seeking to destabilize the area. He hailed the role of Saudi Arabia in maintaining stability in the region. King Salman and Trump also praised the international progress that has been made in combating the ISIS terrorist organization in Iraq and Syria. King Salman also stressed the need to find a political solution to the Syrian crisis.
