The siren drills in a number of Saudi cities are not a routine amid the tense circumstances in the region as Iran, through its Houthi agents in Yemen, continues to fire ballistic missiles at populated Saudi cities, which shows the danger facing everyone. Despite this and the spread of the organized violence by the Iranian regime, the governments of both Germany and France are promoting the idea of overlooking the Iranian wars and respecting the nuclear agreement with it. For the first time and bluntly, German Chancellor Angela Merkel talked about strengthening her country’s military defense policy away from the United States, informing the Iranian president by phone that she is committed to the agreement and cooperating with Iran. Along with Merkel, the French president also chose to separate himself from Washington, promising trade with the regime in Tehran and announcing a desire to become more independent from the permanent American ally. The stances opposing the US president’s withdrawal from the nuclear deal pose a number of seemingly positive visions that are in fact much more negative. France and Germany’s commitment to the agreement may stem from a belief that it is the lesser of two evils. They claim that their position gives Iran an opportunity to think and act positively so as not to lose Europe, after it had lost the US. Germany and France are promoting their biased position on Tehran as if it is aimed at rationalizing its policies and preventing the regime from re-building nuclear weapons. On the other side of this open position, the Germans and French do not have enough cards in their hands to keep Tehran’s military and economic behavior in check. Both countries are therefore sending wrong signals to the Iranian supreme leader that he is right in his position against Washington and that he does not need to correct any of his regional policies. We fear that the Merkel-Macron message is what is going to lead to more chaos and wars in the region. US President Trump may not be tactful, but in this case, he is right. The nuclear deal is the worst in modern history and it must be modified. The Middle East, even with its poor standards, has not witnessed wars, violence or dangers more severe than the ones that occurred after the deal was signed. The future will be even worse as long as the regime in Iran believes that the major powers have abandoned the tools they use to hold it accountable. The Israeli-Iranian confrontation in Syria was but a product of this agreement, which granted the regime funds, allowed it to expand and gave it free reign in the region. The Europeans only offer temporary solutions to major wars, such as the one in Syria, by donating more tents and blankets. This is where they are wrong. Syria will give way to more problems, due to the imbalance in power in the region. In Libya, which lies just south of the continent, Europe, either as a group or through individual countries, could only tackle the civil war through deploying naval police to stop illegal migrants. The result has been an absence of a centralized authority and inability to make peace. Libya has become a passage for thousands of Africans, who are ready to die drowning in their attempt to migrate to Europe. Europe with its sleepy policy wants one of two solutions: Either that the US bear the burden of the military confrontation or let regional countries burn. Europe is not capable of taking any decision to go to war and it does not have the ability to agree on joint military work. Had it not been for US intervention in Bosnia, the crisis may still be ongoing in Europe to this very day! Can the Germans and French inform us of their vision of a solution to what Iran is doing in Iraq, Syria, Gaza and Yemen? All they are looking after is selling weapons, but they refuse to deploy forces, offer intelligence information or logistic support. Except for France’s symbolic unit in Syria, we cannot say that Europe is making a difference on the ground. We can therefore say that the Europeans’ bowing to the Iranian regime is taking place at the expense of the restless Iranian people and at the expense of the countries in the region that have all become targets for Iran and that have nothing else to do but prepare for greater wars.
