Islamabad maintains that the US decision constitutes a clear violation of international law and UN Security Council resolutions. “America has completely ignored the moral, legal and political rights of Palestinians and Muslims worldwide” by moving its embassy to Jerusalem and declaring the city Israel’s capital, Barrister Humayun Chattha told Arab News. The move could plunge the Middle East into a deeper crisis, amid the killing by Israel of dozens of Palestinians protesting the decision, he added. Faisal said the killings are a “reprehensible violation of international law.” He tweeted: “Ruthless Israeli bloodbath in Gaza… the world needs to understand the desperation it takes for thousands to march in to live gunfire. The massacre must be stopped.” Foreign relations and political expert Zafar Jaspal told Arab News that the embassy move “strengthens anti-American sentiment in the Muslim world” and “the propaganda of radicalized militant forces in the Middle East.” Quaid-i-Azam University Prof. Aasim Sajjad said the Trump administration has been very reactionary compared with its predecessors. The embassy move indicates “the complete absence” of any consideration of “Palestinian rights and self-determination,” he told Arab News. “Only lip service is paid to the Palestinian issue.” Chattha said the US needs to play a fair global role and avoid actions that may cause chaos. “Jerusalem historically, legally and morally is part of Palestine,” he added.
