Saudi efforts succeeded in containing a dispute between the legitimate Yemeni government and the United Arab Emirates regarding the situation in Yemen’s Socotra, in conjunction with the Kingdom’s launch of a large program for the development of the archipelago and an air corridor to provide relief to its inhabitants. Yemeni Prime Minister Ahmed Obeid bin Daghr announced on Monday the end of the crisis and commended the role of Saudi Arabia, which was able to find solutions to preserve the security of the archipelago. Yemeni President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi held a meeting at his temporary residence in Riyadh with his senior advisers, praising the Saudi role in overcoming the consequences of the Socotra crisis and highlighting the latest humanitarian efforts led by the Kingdom. According to Yemeni government sources, Bin Daghr returned on Monday from Socotra to the temporary capital Aden after spending 17 days in the islands to normalize the situation and launch various projects. In the same context, two Saudi planes arrived on the island on Monday carrying about 20 tons of medical and relief aid to the residents of the Yemeni archipelago and its center, Socotra Island, as part of the Kingdom’s plan for the reconstruction program in Yemen, which is supervised by Saudi Ambassador Mohammed Al Jaber. Well-informed sources reported on Sunday that a Saudi force had arrived in Socotra Island to assist Yemeni forces and train them in conjunction with the success of the efforts led by Riyadh to end the dispute between the Yemeni government and the UAE. Spokesman for the Coalition Forces to Support Legitimacy in Yemen Colonel Turki al-Maliki had said earlier that there were some differences between the local government and the UAE forces on ways to deal with some issues on the island. He added that they agreed on a mechanism for comprehensive coordination between the Coalition and the Yemeni government.
