Saudi air defenses intercepted early in Tuesday a ballistic missile that was fired by the Iran-backed Houthi militias in Yemen, reported the Saudi Press Agency. Official spokesman of the Coalition for Supporting the Legitimacy in Yemen Colonel Turki al-Maliki said that the missile was fired towards the city of Yanbu and was deliberately targeting residential areas. He noted that this was the second time that a missile was fired towards Saudi Arabia while United Nations special envoy to Yemen was paying a visit to Sanaa. This proves the terrorist militias’ disregard for UN efforts to achieve peace in Yemen, Maliki added. The Houthi militias’ hostile act proves once again Iran’s ongoing involvement in supporting the group with military capabilities in clear defiance of UN Security Council resolutions 2216 and 2231, he added. He accused the group of seeking to destabilize Saudi Arabia and threaten regional and international security, stating that firing ballistic missiles at residential areas was a violation of International Humanitarian Law.
