Saudi air defenses destroyed on Sunday night a ballistic missile fired by the Iran-backed Houthi militias in Yemen against the Kingdom, reported the Saudi Press Agency. Saudi-led Arab coalition spokesman Colonel Turki al-Maliki said that the missile was fired from Yemen’s Saada region towards Saudi Arabia’s Jazan. He charged that it was deliberately launched at residential areas, saying that the air defenses intercepted and destroyed the missile. Shrapnel from the rocket landed in residential areas, but no one was injured in the incident, he added. This hostile act demonstrates the Iranian regime’s ongoing involvement in supporting the Houthis with weapons in clear and blatant violation of United Nations Security Council resolutions 2216 and 2231, Maliki stressed. He accused the Houthis of seeking to destabilize Saudi Arabia and threaten regional and international security, stating that firing ballistic missiles at residential areas was a violation of International Humanitarian Law.
