UN Special Envoy for Yemen Martin Griffiths arrived in Sanaa on Monday, two weeks after he made a similar visit. His trip on Monday comes in line with his efforts to persuade the Houthi militias into withdrawing from the city of Hodeidah and its strategic harbor, sparing it the consequences of the liberation by force by the Yemeni army and the popular resistance forces, who are backed by the Saudi-led Arab Coalition. Griffiths also seeks to complete the arrangements for the resumption of peace negotiations between the legitimate government and the coup. He returned to Hodeidah after official statements by Yemeni deputies in which they rejected efforts to stop the military offensive to liberate the city, considering them futile attempts by suspicious international parties to save the Houthi militias from one of their worst defeats. Following a consultative meeting, deputies, who are not controlled by the Houthi group, stressed in a statement that military operations would continue. Their stance was similar to recent statements made by President Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi and the legitimate Yemeni government, confirming that the only solution to stop the battle of liberation is the full and unconditional Houthi withdrawal from Hodeidah and its harbor, and from all ports of the Red Sea, including their pullout from the ports of Ras Issa and Salif. Griffiths did not make any new statements upon arrival at Sanaa airport, yet UN sources said that the visit will last for three days. During his visit, the UN envoy will meet with the militia leaders before returning to the temporary capital Aden for talks with Hadi and leaders of the legitimate government and to brief them on the outcome of his talks with leaders of the pro-Iranian group. Notably, the leader of the Houthis had announced, following Griffiths previous visit, that his militia has agreed for a UN supervision of the port of Hodeidah, including the technical and logistical aspects, as he claimed, without addressing the approval on the full withdrawal from the city and its port, as the legitimate government demands.
