Saudi Arabia Renews Rejection of Israels Nation-State Law

The Saudi Cabinet renewed on Tuesday the Kingdoms rejection and condemnation of the Israeli Knessets adoption of the "Jewish Nation-State" law, which violates the provisions of the international law and the lofty principles of human rights and impedes international efforts aimed at finding a peaceful solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. During the session that was chaired by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Cabinet called on the international community to reject such law and all other Israeli attempts to perpetuate racial discrimination against the Palestinian people aimed at obliterating their national identity and undermining their legitimate rights. Furthermore, Minister of Media Dr. Awwad bin Saleh Al-Awwad stated that the Cabinet expressed the Kingdoms appreciation for what has been done by the United Nations and its agencies to spare children the brunt of the destructive wars and the suffering of the diaspora around the world, reiterating the Kingdoms support for all measures and precautions necessary to maintain their safety and reduce the loss of civilian lives. The Cabinet stressed, in this context, the Kingdoms call to the United Nations Security Council to condemn the actions being committed by Houthi militias backed by Iran on recruiting children and involving them in battlefields as well as using them as human shields and the firing of missiles from platforms installed in the civilian neighborhoods, reflecting a blatant disregard for international laws and humanitarian norms. At the outset of the session, the King welcomed pilgrims who started arriving in the Kingdom from all over the world to perform Hajj rituals, praying to Almighty Allah to accept their Hajj, directing all public and private sectors pertaining to serving pilgrims to exert all efforts for facilitating for pilgrims since their arrival through various ports and in the two holy cities of Makkah and Madinah and the holy sites, double their endeavors and upgrade services being provided for pilgrims to keep abreast of latest developments executed in the Two Holy Mosques, holy sites and various utilities to provide best facilities for the guests of Allah to perform Hajj rituals easily, tranquilly and safely. The King briefed the Cabinet on the results of his talks with President Isaias Afwerki of the State of Eritrea, during which they reviewed bilateral relations between the two countries, ways of developing and enhancing them and latest developments at the regional arena. Dr. Awwad said, in a statement to the Saudi Press Agency following the session, that the Cabinet reviewed a number of reports on latest developments in the region and the world, appreciating the signing of minutes of establishing a coordination council between the Kingdom and Kuwait, reaffirming close ties between the two countries and keenness on developing and enhancing them to serve the joint interests of the two countries and their brotherly peoples. The Cabinet also welcomed what has been issued by the Group of Twenty Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors (G20) after their meeting held in Buenos Aires on July 21-22, 2018, on the importance of the continuation of G20 efforts in supporting balanced, strong, sustainable and comprehensive growth and the implementation of structural reforms to enhance the prospects of the global economy in addition to exerting efforts to benefit from technical advancement and avoid its negative impact on employment opportunities and the importance of investment in infrastructure, including the mobilization of private sector resources for investing in infrastructure. Dr. Awwad said that the Cabinet reviewed and topics on its agenda, including some co-studied by the Shura Council. First, it approved a cooperation agreement in the fields of agriculture, livestock and fish resources between the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Bulgarian Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry. A royal decree has been prepared in this regard. Second, it authorized the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Sports Authority - or his deputy - to discuss with the New Zealand side a draft Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation between the General Sports Authority of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Sport New Zealand in the fields of promoting physical activities and sports participation, sign it, and submit the final version to complete formal procedures. Third, it approved a memorandum of understanding between the General Auditing Bureau in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Accountability State Authority in the Arab Republic of Egypt in the field of accountability, supervisory and professional work. Fourth, the Cabinet approved a mechanism concerning the procedures for the signing of the agreement adopted by the World Trade Organization with countries seeking accession to WTO. In its statement, the Cabinet said that following negotiations with the international organization regarding the Kingdoms requests for access to the markets of that country, "the Minister of Commerce and Investment authorizes whoever he sees fit to consider the initial signing of the schedules of the obligations of that State and the texts reached by the two parties, then the Minister of Commerce and Investment - or his deputy - shall sign the final protocol of the agreement, adopted by the World Trade Organization with the country seeking accession to the World Trade Organization. " Fifth, it approved a mechanism for the transfer of tasks of managing Finance Houses in the Ministry of Justice and the Chambers of Finance Houses in the courts to the General Commission For the Guardianship Of Trust Funds For Minors and their Counterparts. Also, the Cabinet approved a number of promotions and was finally briefed on a number of general topics on its agenda, including the annual reports of the Education Assessment Board and the Human Resources Development Fund for two previous fiscal years.
