The Saudi cabinet renewed on Tuesday its absolute rejection of the Canadian government’s “negative” stance over the detained so-called “civil society activists”, demanding that it adhere to international norms on respecting the sovereignty of nations. Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz chaired the cabinet session in Neom, Tabuk, that also stressed that the detainees were arrested by the concerned authority, which is the General Prosecution. They are held on legal charges, their rights have been respected and all guarantees have been provided to them during the investigation and trial periods, it added. International norms and treaties that call for respecting the sovereignty of each nation and refraining from meddling in their internal affairs must be adhered to, demanded the cabinet. The legal and judicial rules of these nations must be respected. The government also discussed the latest regional and international developments, as well as the latest preparations to receive the Hajj pilgrims. The cabinet hailed the efforts of the Saudi-led Arab coalition in Yemen for taking all the necessary measures, in coordination with the international community, to ensure the continued freedom of navigation in international trade routes through the Bab al-Mandeb Strait and southern Red Sea. It stressed that the alliance had taken all necessary security measures to reduce the dangers in these regions to ensure that global oil shipments are maintained. Furthermore, the Saudi cabinet expressed its strong condemnation of the suicide attacks that targeted a mosque and NATO forces in eastern Afghanistan. It voiced the Kingdom’s solidarity with Afghanistan in its efforts to combat terrorism, stressing that it opposes all forms of violence and extremism. It also offered its condolences to Indonesia over the victims of Sunday’s earthquake in the tourist island of Lombok.
