Suicide bomber targets civilians attending rally No one has claimed responsibility for the attack KABUL: A suicide bomber in Afghanistan killed at least 32 people and wounded more than 120 at a demonstration on Tuesday on the highway between the eastern city of Jalalabad and the main border crossing into neighboring Pakistan. The suicide bomber detonated the bomb at a rally which had gathered to protest against a local police commander, in the eastern province of Nangarhar. There was no claim of responsibility for the attack which occurred a few hours after a series of small blasts took place elsewhere in Jalalabad. Few casualties were reported in those attacks. The bombing, less than a week after a suicide attack killed more than 20 people in the capital Kabul, took place as violence has flared across the nation, with heavy fighting in northern provinces. The indications are that violence is likely to intensify before parliamentary elections next month and a presidential election in April.
