Saudi-Iraqi Coordination Council Holds Meeting

The Saudi-Iraqi Joint Coordination Council (SICC) discussed Sunday its plan of action for the next phase during a meeting held in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad. The meeting was attended by National Coordinator of the SICC team Dr. Mahdi al-Alak, who is also secretary general of the Iraqi Cabinet’s General Secretariat, in addition to representatives of relevant bodies, including general authorities of customs, taxes, and borders, a statement by Iraqi Cabinet’s Secretariat said. From the Saudi side, the statement added, Secretary General of the Saudi Coordination Council Abdulrahman bin Ahmed al-Harbi and representatives of the Ministry of Commerce and Investment and the Saudi Standards, Metrology And Quality Organization attended the meeting as well. According to the statement, Alak reviewed the agreement on the development of Arar and Jumaima border crossings and the irrigation project in Muthanna province as well as the agreement to establish the sports city donated by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz to Iraq. The meeting also tackled the most important memorandums of understanding that will be signed with Saudi Arabia, procedures preceding the signing event, which will take place in Baghdad in April, and the follow-up mechanisms. Participants also discussed “the process of making an inventory of goods to review their exemption from customs and taxes, adopting certificates of ratification, specifying bodies responsible for the energy, transport and agriculture sectors in order to facilitate the issuance of certificates for their projects, and identifying the Coordination Council’s priorities for the years 2019- 2020,” the statement explained.
