Qatar COVID-19 cases cross 120,000-mark

DOHA — Qatar detected 231 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, bringing the total number of cases since the beginning of the pandemic in the country to 120,095, according to the ministry of public health. The majority of the cases (116,998) have recovered, with 2,894 cases still active after the additional 231, reported the ministry on its Twitter account. The ministry also announced that one person had died from coronavirus during the last 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 203. Out of the 231 new cases, 222 are community cases and 9 from travelers returning from abroad. All the new infected cases have been placed in isolation and are receiving necessary medical care according to their health status. Three patients were admitted to intensive care due to health complications resulting from infection with the virus, bringing the total number of cases receiving medical care in intensive care currently to 49. While the restrictions of COVID-19 are gradually being lifted in Qatar, authorities are insisting following precautionary measures including adherence to physical distancing, avoiding close contact with others in crowded places, wearing a face mask and a regular washing of hands. — Agencies
