Bahrain has called for a just solution for the Palestinian cause and stressed importance of maintaining good neighborliness with regional countries. Following the declaration of the peace agreement with Israel, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid al-Zayan said that efforts shall be doubled to reach a just solution to the Palestinians, noting that peace shall be considered a strategic option to end the "Palestinian-Israeli conflict in a just and comprehensive manner.” He stressed that the conflict must be resolved in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab peace initiative, while ensuring the rights of the brotherly Palestinian people. Zayani said the step taken by Manama is realistic to face strategic challenges and preserve national interests. Normalizing relations with Israel attains objectives of the 2002 Arab peace initiative, contributes to bolstering regional security and stability and reaching lasting peace, he added. The FM further highlighted the importance of the peace agreement scheduled to be concluded soon between the UAE and Israel, noting that it contributed to halting the annexation plan of Palestinian lands and taking steps to achieve peace in the Middle East region. In this context, Zayani and Israeli counterpart Gabi Ashkenazi held a phone call on Saturday, during which they agreed to work on establishing diplomatic ties. According to a foreign ministry statement, both ministers congratulated each other on the historic agreement and stressed the need to move relations forward to promote peace and stability in the region. Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the agreement in a phone call on Friday. Interior Minister General Sheikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, for his part, has stressed that the declaration of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bahrain and Israel is a sovereign decision that represents a courageous stance reflecting the King’s “wisdom and forward-looking vision.” “Bahrain will remain the land of peace and safety, and the cradle of coexistence and openness to the other, which is a deep-rooted and a continuous approach,” he added. Meanwhile, Minister of Information Affairs Ali bin Mohammed al-Rumaihi stressed the Kingdom’s firm and permanent stance on the rights of the Palestinian people, which is a “top priority.” The peace agreement represents one of Bahrain’s international efforts to spread the culture of peace and peaceful coexistence in the world, Rumaihi noted. The small Jewish community in Bahrain also hailed the “historical” agreement to normalize relations, considering it a major step to attain regional peace. Head of the community Ibrahim Nunu said he is looking forward for prosperous relations that would benefit both states.
