Saudi Arabia calls for just solution to Palestinian issue

Author: Wed, 2020-02-05 00:59 RIYADH: The Saudi Cabinet, chaired by King Salman, on Tuesday reaffirmed the Kingdom’s support for efforts to reach a just and comprehensive solution of the Palestinian-Israeli issue. The Cabinet underscored Riyadh’s efforts to end the conflict, citing its proposal of the Arab peace initiative during the 2002 Arab League summit in Beirut as part of its pioneering role in helping the Palestinian people. It also expressed its appreciation to the US administration for developing a comprehensive peace plan between the Palestinians and Israelis. Saudi ministers called for a solution that guaranteed the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. The king briefed the Cabinet on discussions he held on Monday with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and telephone conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. King Salman and Putin discussed coordination between Riyadh and Moscow to stabilize the oil market.HIGHLIGHT • Saudi ministers wants a solution guaranteeing Palestinians’ legitimate rights. • The Cabinet praised Riyadh’s hosting of the Global Cybersecurity Forum.  The Cabinet also reviewed the unanimous decision by Arab League foreign ministers at a meeting in Cairo on Saturday to address the US peace plan. The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) also met to address the proposal. Both organizations stressed the centrality of the Palestinian cause for the entire Arab and Muslim nation, and the need to commit to the peace process as a strategic choice to resolve the conflict. The settlement must be based on the two-state solution and be in line with international resolutions and Arab peace initiatives. Following the session, Media Minister Turki Al-Shabanah said the Cabinet lauded the Kingdom’s contributions to the programs of the UN Alliance of Civilizations, and its role in promoting a culture of peace and tolerance. The Cabinet praised Riyadh’s hosting of the Global Cybersecurity Forum.
