SAOC, G20 Saudi Secretariat to host NOCs conference

RIYADH — The Saudi Arabian Olympic Committee and G20 Saudi Secretariat are delighted to announce the NOCs Conference that will be held on Tuesday (Nov. 17), discussing ‘The Olympic Movement during and after COVID-19’. Honoring G20 Saudi Presidency year 2020, the NOCs Conference will be hosted as part of the International Conferences Program and further the Olympic response to COVID-19; as well as sustainable cooperation among National Olympic Committees (NOCs) and the role of sport in achieving Sustainable Development Goals. The event will focus on highlighting the crucial role the Olympic movement and sport will play in the social, economic, mental and physical recovery of the international community in a post COVID-19 world. Chaired by Prince Abdulaziz Bin Turki Al Faisal, president of the Saudi Arabian Olympic Committee (SAOC) and Riyadh 2030 Asian Games Bid, with Thomas Bach, president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), as Honorary Chair, the conference has invited representatives from a host of international sports organizations including: • National Olympic Committees (NOCs) of the G20 countries • Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) • The Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee (TOCOG) • Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) • World Health Organisation (WHO) • World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) The event follows the OCA Evaluation Committee’s successful visit to Riyadh during which the Bid Committee, led by Prince Abdulaziz showcased the city’s vision for a transformative 2030 Asian Games on a spectacular and sustainable stage. Prince Abdulaziz said: “We’re delighted to be hosting the international NOCs Conference as part of The International Conferences Program, honoring the G20 Saudi presidency year 2020. We look forward to collaborating with our fellow G20 NOCs and representatives from across the global Olympic Family to highlight how sport and the Olympic Movement can lead our recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. “Fostering close relationships with other NOCs and sports organizations is a fundamental commitment of SAOC. We understand the importance of knowledge sharing and capability building, and the NOCs Conference will be an invaluable opportunity to share insight and respond collectively to the ongoing disruption.” G20 countries include: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and United States and the EU. In addition, guests from the national Olympic committees of United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Spain, Rwanda, Singapore, Switzerland and Vietnam were also invited to take part in the virtual conference.
