OIC calls on Afghans to end violence

JEDDAH: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Monday called on all Afghan parties to put an immediate end to violence and work together for reconciliation and lasting peace. OIC Secretary-General Dr. Youssef Al-Othaimeen reiterated the organization’s firm commitment to assisting the Afghan people in their efforts to achieve comprehensive national reconciliation. He vowed to help the Afghans achieve stability in their country. Al-Othaimeen urged Afghanistan’s international partners to support the war-torn country at this critical stage. He underscored the resolutions issued by the OIC summits and the Council of Foreign Ministers. The OIC chief also highlighted the importance of the Makkah Declaration issued by the International Ulema Conference for Peace and Security in Afghanistan held in 2018. It called for a national dialogue to resolve all differences among various Afghan factions. The OIC secretary-general called on all member states to play their role in helping Afghans reach a political solution. He stressed the importance of dialogue to resolve all issues amicably and in accordance with the teachings of Islam.  The OIC chief denounced all acts of violence and urged all stakeholders to exercise restraint to achieve peace and contribute to the development and prosperity of the country.
