NAIROBI (Reuters) - The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said on Sunday that hospitals in Mekelle, capital of the Ethiopian region of Tigray, are running low on supplies to care for the wounded, a day after the government announced military operations were complete in the region. A referral hospital in the city is lacking body bags for the dead and is running low on basic supplies such as gloves, the ICRC said in a statement. The situation in the city of 500,000 people was “quiet” on Sunday, it said. The government has not said if there were casualties in its offensive to take the city on Saturday. Claims from all sides are difficult to verify since phone and internet links to Tigray have been down and access tightly controlled since the fighting began.
