RIYADH — The Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources Bandar Bin Ibrahim Al-Khorayef has issued a decision to establish a Sustainability Council for the industry and mineral resources system aimed at achieving environmental sustainability in the industrial and mining sector. The new council will be headed by Deputy Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources for Mining Affairs Khalid Bin Saleh Al-Mudaifer, and the membership of advisor Ahmed Bin Muhammad Ajab Nour as secretary-general of the Council, and representatives from 7 parties. Al-Mudaifer emphasized that the newly formed Council aims to unify the efforts of the industry and mineral resources to achieve sustainability goals, enhance the competitiveness and diversity of national industries, as well as improve sustainability indicators for industry and mining communities.He explained that the Council will provide an appropriate environment to attract investors in the industrial and mining sectors, enrich technical knowledge in the field of sustainability through digital platforms, promote clean production initiatives in the industrial and mining sectors, and to provide support to community members in responding to all challenges, as well as to unify effective communication with local legislative entities and international organizations. He added the Council will work on reviewing local legislation, guidelines and implementing regulations related to sustainability and regional and international agreements, in addition to enhancing cooperation with legislative bodies to build trust with the society through the exchange of information, and holding workshops, seminars, conferences, and international events. It is noteworthy that the Sustainability Council in the Industry and Mineral Resources System includes in its membership representatives from the industry and mining sectors, in addition to the Saudi Authority for Industrial Cities and Technology Zones (MODON), the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu, the Saudi Industrial Development Fund, the Saudi Geological Survey, and the National Industrial Development Center. — SPA
