Saudi Arabia’s total COVID-19 infections near 500,000 as new cases drop, recoveries surge

RIYADH — New COVID-19 cases in Saudi Arabia dropped below the 1,200-mark on Friday, with 1,133 new infections recorded over the past 24 hours. According to a statement from the Ministry of Health, 14 more people died due to complications caused by the virus. This brings the total number of confirmed infections in the Kingdom to 498,906 and the virus-related fatalities to 7,947. The ministry also said that a total of 1,582 people recovered over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of people free from the deadly virus to 479,709. The Riyadh region reported the highest number of new cases with 328, followed by the Makkah region with 245, the Eastern region with 206, and the Asir region with 108 infections. The remaining cases were detected in other regions of the Kingdom with just two of them reporting less than 10 infections. According to the ministry, there were 11,250 active cases and 1,378 of them were in critical condition.
