King, Crown Prince offer condolences to Iraqi president over deadly hospital fire

RIYADH — Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman sent a cable of condolences and sympathy to Iraqi President Barham Salih after a fire at Al-Hussein Teaching Hospital in the southern Iraqi city of Nasiriyah on Monday night left dozens dead and scores injured, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Tuesday. In his message, King Salman said: “We learned of the news of a fire in Al-Hussein Teaching Hospital in Nasiriyah, and the deaths and injuries that resulted from it, and as we send to your excellency, the families of the deceased, and the people of Iraq, our sincere condolences and deepest sympathy,” wishing a speedy recovery for the injured. Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman also sent a similar cable to the Iraqi president. Earlier in the day, the Saudi foreign ministry in a statement expressed the Kingdom’s deep sorrow over the deadly blaze. The foreign ministry extended the Kingdom"s support and its full solidarity with Iraq and the Iraqi people during the tragic incident. The ministry expressed the Kingdom"s sincere condolences and deepest sympathy with the families of the victims, as well as Iraqi leadership, government and people, wishing a speedy recovery for the injured. Meanwhile, the death toll from the deadly blaze at the hospital’s coronavirus isolation ward rose to 92 on Tuesday, according to the Iraqi state news agency.
