Minister of Commerce and Acting Minister of Media Dr. Majed Al-Qasabi said that Saudi Arabia has ranked 2nd out of 121 countries in the Nikkei COVID-19 Recovery Index and ranked 10th out of 184 countries in the Global COVID-19 Index (GCI). The minister said this while spelling out the remarkable achievements made by the Kingdom locally and globally in wide ranging areas especially in its fight against coronavirus pandemic. Addressing the periodic Government Communication Press Conference here on Monday, Al-Qasabi said the Kingdom’s non-oil exports recorded highest figurers, reaching SR255 billion ($68 billion) during the period between June 2020 and June 2021. “This represents a practical translation of the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.” The minister said the Kingdom is witnessing an unprecedented transformation through the initiatives that were announced, such as the recently launched Human Capability Development Program, under the direct supervision of the Crown Prince, and that aims at enhancing the competitiveness of Saudi citizens locally and globally. The Kingdom’s pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai has already won three Guinness World Record titles, reflecting the reality of the unprecedented transformation the Kingdom is experiencing. Al-Qasabi said the ongoing Riyadh International Book Fair is witnessing the participation of 1,000 Arab, local and international publishing houses from 28 countries and the display of more than one million books, making it the largest book fair in the region. “The Kingdom, being part of the world, has seen its tourism sector affected by the pandemic, during which our colleagues at the Ministry of Tourism invested their time to further enhance the local tourism sector. The pandemic has given us an opportunity to discover our homeland’s distinctive heritage and tourist sites,” he added.
