GCC chief underlines international involvement in Yemen efforts

GCC Secretary-General Dr. Nayef Al-Hajraf Wednesday stressed the significance of international organizations participation in backing developmental and humanitarian efforts in Yemen. Dr. Al-Hajraf made the remark during meeting with Vice-President of the World Bank for Middle East and North Africa Ferid Belhaj at the GCC headquarters in Riyadh. He spoke highly of the World Bank"s involvement in ongoing GCC-patronized inter-Yemeni consultations held in Riyadh between March 29 and April 7, the GCC Secretariat General said in a statement. The GCC chief said the World Bank is playing a role in shoring up security and stability and restoring peace in Yemen, underlining the significance of inter-Yemen negotiations to bolstering and cementing humanitarian and social aid to Yemen. Meanwhile, the GCC-sponsored Yemeni consultations continued here on Wednesday through closed-door meetings aiming at finding solutions to existing challenges Yemen is facing, and drafting a road map to peace. GCC Ambassador to Yemen Sarhan Al-Minaikher told reporters that Yemeni negotiators have begun discussions on finding effective ways out of the Yemeni crisis in a bid to bring security and stability back to this war-torn country. He said that they would meet again tomorrow (Thursday) to look into visions for solutions to the Yemeni crisis, reiterating Gulf backing for Yemeni negotiations" endeavor to resolve their country"s problems. “Everyone is optimistic. The Yemeni people are pinning their hopes on their representatives at these consultations,” he pointed out. Inter-Yemeni talks, which kicked off in Riyadh on March 29, mainly cover military, security, political, humanitarian, economic and social issues. — KUNA
