New York, 10 Dhu Al-Hijjah, 1431/Nov. 16, SPA -- United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon and Saudi Representative to the UN Khalid Al-Nafisee hailed here today the former President of the United Nations Population Fund, Dr. Thurayya Obaid. Ban described Obaid as an added-value for the UN and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, pointed out that Obaid was the first Saudi lady to obtain a scholarship to study in the United States. Ban was addressing a reception held in honor of Obaid. On his part, the Saudi Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Al-Nafisee expressed on behalf of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, its proud of Dr. Obaid achievements as the first Saudi lady to assume such prominent and top level position in the UN.
