Washington, April 17, 2010, SPA -- The United States on Friday pledged to work with Kyrgyz interim leaders to develop a “prosperous democracy.” The State Department said it was in talks with the Central Asian country’s interim leaders on “how best to help the country return to a democratic path” after a visit by senior U.S. envoy Robert Blake. “The United States remains committed to the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the Kyrgyz Republic and to helping the courageous Kyrgyz people achieve their aspirations for developing a peaceful, economically prosperous democracy,” spokesman P.J. Crowley said. The spokesman called for a “peaceful resolution” of the political situation, praising efforts by the United Nations and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. The United States cooperated with Russia and Kazakhstan to fly ousted President Kurmanbek Bakiyev out of Kyrgyzstan in an effort to calm tensions. --SPA 11:48 LOCAL TIME 08:48 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/770491
