SAARC countries resolve to fight terrorism jointly : Malik

ISLAMABAD, June 27, 2010, SPA -- Interior Minister A. Rehman Malik on Saturday said that SAARC countries have agreed to work jointly against the terrorism, human trafficking, drug smuggling and other crimes in the region. “We have productive meetings and agreed that terrorism is of great concern for SAARC countries and all SAARC countries are suffering from the menace.” Addressing a press conference at the end of the three-day SAARC moot, he said the main focus of SAARC moot was terrorism and all member states resolved to work unitedly to send a strong message to the terrorists. The Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) quoted Malik as saying that the ministerial meeting was of the view that every religion teaches peace and harmony, “We will not allow to use religion for ulterior motives,” he added. The minister said that it was agreed that the SAARC platform would be strengthened and coordination among member states would be enhanced. To a question regarding the SAARC police, he said modalities are being finalized for constitution of regional police. “We need capacity building of law enforcement agencies.
