Washington, December 02, SPA -- U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will attend a “very important” meeting of NATO foreign ministers on Friday, the State Department said Tuesday, as Washington seeks further allied reinforcements in Afghanistan. The Brussels meeting, which will be the first between Clinton and her 28 NATO counterparts, follows an expected announcement from President Barack Obama later Tuesday that he is deploying another 30,000 soldiers to Afghanistan. The United States hopes its European allies offer up to 10,000 troops to meet recommendations by the top U.S. and NATO commander in Afghanistan. Friday’s ministerial is a “very important coordination meeting” for future Afghanistan deployments, spokesman Ian Kelly told reporters, adding that Clinton would depart Washington on Thursday.--SPA --SPA 11:28 LOCAL TIME 08:28 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/724232
