ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, May 17, SPA -- A senior diplomat says the U.N. Security Council will be assessing efforts to bringstability to the central Africa region of the Great Lakes. Uganda's U.N. Ambassador Ruhakana Rugunda says this willbe the focus of talks Sunday with officials in Rwanda, thenext stop on the council's Africa trip, and Congoleseofficials Monday. Congo and Rwanda are part of the Great Lakes region. Thepresence in eastern Congo of extremist Hutus who carriedout Rwanda's 1994 genocide has been a source of tensionbetween the neighbors. Congo and Rwanda have previously accused each other ofsupporting the other's rebel groups. But this year theyhave conducted joint operations against the rebels.--SPA www.spa.gov.sa/665121
