Washington, Dec 4, SPA -- Prince Turki al-Faisal has underscored the importance of the Arab peace initiate. He noted that the peace initiative, proposed by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abudlaziz and approved by the Arab summit, held in Beirut in 2002, is based on the resolutions of the international legitimacy including the resolution number 242 issued in 1967 as well as the resolution 338 issued in 1973 and the land-for-peace principle approved by Madrid conference in 199 in addition to Annapolis conference. The remarks of Prince Turki were made at his speech at Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University last night. The meeting was attended by a number of researchers concerned with the Middle East problems and students of higher studies. Prince Turki shed light on the history of the Arab-Israeli conflict and to the efforts exerted to realize peace since 1947 and the resolution 194 pertaining to the right of return and reparation to the Palestinian refugees. The road for peace is very clear, and if Israel is keen on peace then it should put an end to its provocative works including the settlements in the occupied territories, he said. Prince Turki said Israel has been violating the international law and going ahead on confiscation of the Palestinian territories. To realize a fair and durable settlement for the Middle East problem, Israel should accept peace as a strategic option which includes withdrawal from the territories occupied since 1967 and acceptance of a just solution for the problem of the Palestinian refugees as well as recognition of a Palestinian state with Al-Quds as its capital. Prince Turki shed light on the peace efforts of Saudi Arabia, and said the Kingdom has been supporting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and their just cause. He noted that the road for peace requires intensified diplomatic efforts as well as enhancing cooperation for reaching the desired goal.--SPA www.spa.gov.sa/613777
