German leaders see close cooperation with Obama White House

Berlin, Nov 5, SPA -- German political leaders congratulated Barack Obamaon his election success Wednesday with Chancellor Angela Merkelsaying Berlin looked forward to working together in complete trustwith the new Democrat-led White House, reported dpa. "The world faces considerable challenges at the start of your termin office," Merkel said, with German President Horst Koehler andForeign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier also congratulating Obama onhis victory. In a letter to Obama, Koehler said he "could count on Germany as areliable partner and long-standing friend" as he faced up to thechallenges of office. Steinmeier said Obama had secured an extraordinary victory and hadduring his election campaign helped to reawaken an enthusiasm forpolitics. "I am convinced that there will be close and trustful cooperationbetween the United States and Europe so as successfully use thehazards and risks as well as the manifold opportunities to open upour global world," Merkel said in a letter to Obama.--SPA www.spa.gov.sa/604681
