U.N. Chief Condemns Pakistan Suicide Bombing

United Nations, July 08, SPA -- U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon on Monday condemned Sunday’s suicide bombing in Pakistan’s Islamabad region that reportedly killed several people, mostly police, and injured dozens. Ban’s spokeswoman Michele Montas said the secretary-general “urges all political forces to unite against the scourge of terrorism and expresses his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and to the government and people of Pakistan.” She noted reports of “a series of explosions” in Karachi that have killed many more. In other developments, the U.N. secretary-general on Monday also condemned the suicide bombing in Afghanistan’s Kabul region, the killing of a U.N. Development Program official in Mogadishu by unknown gunmen, and the recent bombings on the Abkhaz-controlled territory in Georgia.--SPA www.spa.gov.sa/571991
