ISLAMABAD, FEB 9, SPA -- Caretaker Prime Minister Mohammedmian Soomro has announced a compensation package for 1688 industrial workers laid off after the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto on December 27 last. The total package amount comes Rs 25.32 million, said an official statemet. The funding will be met through Workers Welfare Fund, Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal and Sindh Social Security Institution. The workers will be paid three months minimum wage at the rate of Rs 4,600 per month which works out to Rs 13,800 rounded off at Rs. 15,000. The disbursement will be made through Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal (PBM). A committee has been constituted for verification of the cases for compensation. Ministry of Labour and Manpower has been directed to prepare a plan for welfare and rehabilitation of the affected labour force.--SPA www.spa.gov.sa/525391
