BEIJING, Sept 21 , SPA -- The next round of six-nation talks on NorthKorea's nuclear program will begin Sept. 27 in Beijing, AP quoted the sources of the Chinese Foreign Ministry as saying Friday. Talks are scheduled to run for four days through Sept. 30,ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu was quoted as saying in aone-sentence announcement on the ministry's Web site. China has so-far hosted six rounds of the talks among theKoreas, the United States, Russia, China and Japan. After dragging on for four years, talks have recentlymarked rapid progress, with North Korea this year shuttingdown its main nuclear reactor and agreeing to disclose allnuclear programs and disable facilities in exchange foreconomic aid and political concessions. Nuclear experts from the U.S., China and Russia visitedthe North's nuclear facilities last week to discuss thetechnical details of disabling them, reportedly agreeingwith Pyongyang on how to proceed. The upcoming meeting willallow the participants to set more specific dates for thatprocess. On Tuesday, China said it had delivered a shipment ofheavy fuel oil to North Korea amid a series of efforts tokeep talks on disabling North Korean nuclear programs ontrack. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said that was thefirst shipment out of a total of 50,000 tons China haspledged to deliver to the North. China, which is North Korea's primary provider of tradeand aid, has typically used deliveries of oil as aninducement to persuade its politically isolated,economically strapped communist ally to take part in thesix-party talks. Under the February agreement, the five parties agreed toprovide North Korea with a 1 million tons of heavy fueloil, or the monetary equivalent in other aid andassistance. The hard-line regime expelled U.N. monitors in late 2002,shutting its nuclear activities to outside view.
