United Nations, June 11, SPA -- The U.N. children’s agency UNICEF on Tuesday condemned the suicide bombing attack in Afghanistan’s province of Uruzgan that killed several children in a marketplace. “I am especially concerned by the reports I am seeing of a large number of children being among the dead from today’s bomb,” UNICEF representative Tom Koenigs said in a statement. “Such utter disregard for innocent lives is staggering, and those behind this must be held responsible. Their act today makes a mockery of recent statements indicating a concern for civilian lives,” Koenigs said. Seventeen people—including 12 children—were killed and 30 were injured when the suicide bomber struck near a NATO-led convoy in Dihrawud. “In no culture, no country, and no religion is there any excuse or justification for mass murder,” said Koenigs.--SPA www.spa.gov.sa/466578
