UNITED NATIONS, Jumada II 3, 1438, March 2, 2017, SPA -- The U.N. Security Council Thursday strongly condemned Wednesday’s terrorist attacks in Kabul, urging that the perpetrators, organizers, financiers, and sponsors be brought to justice. Roughly 15 people were killed and dozens were injured in the attacks in two areas of the Afghan capital, with the Taliban claiming responsibility. The Security Council said in a statement that terrorism “is criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of its motivation and wherever, whenever, and by whomsoever it is committed.” The council also voiced concern over threats posed by the Taliban, al-Qaida, Daesh, and other illegal and armed groups to the local population, National Defense and Security Forces, and the international presence in the country. “No violent or terrorist acts can reverse the Afghan-led process along the path towards peace, democracy, and stability in Afghanistan, which is supported by the people and the government of Afghanistan, and by the international community,” the statement said. The council stressed the need for all U.N. member states to combat threats to international peace and security caused by terrorist acts. -- SPA 18:41 LOCAL TIME 15:41 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w345231
