CALCUTTA, May 13, SPA -- Indian forces killed five suspected communist rebels in eastern India in a five-hour gun battle, police said Sunday. The clash, which occurred late Saturday in the easternstate of Jharkhand, came after police received a tip that agroup of rebels was gathering in the region, said localpolice officer Hari Narayan Singh, speaking by phone fromRanchi, the state capital. «The encounter lasted for five hours and when it was over we found five dead bodies, two females and three men,» Singh said.
