United Nations, June 5, SPA -- Following two months of relatively light diplomacy under British and American leadership, the U.N. Security Council will have a full schedule during June, said Belgian Ambassador John Verbeke, whose country holds the council presidency this month. Verbeke said that the Middle East will be featured prominently this month, with issues ranging from a report on the return of missing persons and property from the first Iraq war to a number of council reports on Lebanon, including on Resolution 1559, which re-established the sovereignty of the country; and Resolution 1701, which halted the month-long war between Israel and Hezbollah last summer. Terje Roed Larsen, who heads the U.N. effort to implement Resolution 1559, will brief the council mid-month, Verbeke said.--MORE www.spa.gov.sa/456043
