ISLAMABAD, MAY 4, SPA -- President Pervez Musharraf has termed his recent meeting with Afghan President Hamid Karzai in Turkey extremely fruitful and hoped that both the countries would move forward in their fight against those who want to disrupt peace and stability of the region. The president made these remarks while talking to a media delegation from Egypt comprising senior journalists, according to an official statement. Musharraf briefed the delegation about the efforts and steps taken by Pakistan in its fight against terrorism and emphasized that a peaceful, prosperous land stable Afghanistan is in the best interest of all its neighbouring countries. The President ruled out the perception of US pressure on Pakistan and said Pakistan has been a front line State in the international fight against terrorism and its role has been widely acclaimed and acknowledged by the international community including the US. In response to a question, Musharraf said that Pakistan is against nuclear proliferation but fully supports peaceful use of nuclear technology under international safeguards. While commenting on bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and Egypt, the President said that both countries enjoyed extremely strong bilateral relations. There was complete consonance of views on international issues. However, there was a need for further enhancing bilateral trade and economic relations between the two brotherly countries. While briefing the delegation on his Middle East Peace Initiative, Musharraf stressed the need for resolution of Palestine issue and urged that all Muslim countries who have stronger voice must play a pro active role in resolving the outstanding Palestine problem. The Egyptian delegation included Editor in Chiefs and Deputy Editor in Chief, of Al-Ahram , Egyptian Gazette Daily English Newspapers of Cairo, Daily Al-Akhbar, Al-Gamhouria and Egypt daily Al-Ahram. The Egyptian delegation, led by Mohamed Assem El Kersh, supported and appreciated the efforts and steps taken by Musharraf in promoting peace and stability in the region as well as in whole world. They were highly supportive of the role being played by the President in steering the Muslim Ummah towards a prosperous and bright future. The qualities of the statesmanship and commitment of Musharraf which have given an economic turnaround in Pakistan were also appreciated and acknowledged by the Egyptian delegation.--SPA www.spa.gov.sa/446649
