United Nations, APRIL 12, SPA -- U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon strongly condemned terrorist bombings that occurred Wednesday in Algiers, killing at least 30 people and injuring many others, said U.N. deputy spokeswoman Marie Okabe. The secretary-general believes this deplorable incident shows the need for concerted international action against terrorism which has the effect of undermining the normal functioning of societies and disrupting the lives of ordinary people, Okabe told reporters. Al Qaeda took responsibility for the attacks on an Internet site. One bomb was reportedly aimed at Algerian Prime Minister Abdelaziz Belkhadem s headquarters in central Algiers. He was not hurt in the attack. The second bombing occurred in Bab Ezzouar, an area on the eastern outskirts of the capital. --SPA www.spa.gov.sa/440351
