United Nations, January 26, 2010, SPA -- U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has condemned a set of coordinated bombings in Baghdad that killed at least 36 and wounded more than 70 people. The three suicide car bombings occurred in the vicinity of hotels near the heavily fortified Green Zone, where many government and aid agencies are located. “The secretary-general strongly condemns the bomb attacks in Baghdad today that have killed dozens of people and injured scores more. No cause can justify these attacks on civilian targets,” Ban spokesman Martin Nesirky told reporters yesterday. “The secretary-general appeals to the people of Iraq to remain committed to a path of reconciliation despite such attacks, including through the ongoing election preparations,” Nesirky added. Parliamentary elections are scheduled for early March. --SPA 11:12 LOCAL TIME 08:12 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/741802
