2 rebels killed in gun battles in Indian Kashmir

SRINAGAR, India, Nov 20, SPA -- Two suspected rebels were killed and two soldiers wounded Monday in separate incidents in Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said. Soldiers in the village of Devar cordoned off a houseafter receiving a tip that insurgents were hiding there. Agunbattle ensued in which an insurgent was killed and two soldiers wounded, said local police chief Vijay Kumar. Separately, government forces shot and killed a suspected rebel in raid Monday on a hide-out in Dooruvillage, about 60 kilometers (37 miles) south of Srinagar,said Abdul Gani, a senior police officer. Gani said that the rebel was a member ofHezb-ul-Mujahedeen, the largest of a dozen groupsfighting Indian rule in Kashmir.
