Washington (dpa) - US President George W Bush is weighing sendingmore than 20,000 additional troops to Iraq, and the White House hassought reviews on where the extra soldiers would come from and howthe government would fund an increase, DPA QUOTED the Washington Post as saying. The requests to have the military's Joint Chiefs of Staffdetermine where more troops could come from and for a cost analysis"signifies a turn in the debate" the newspaper said. Some officials interviewed for the article believed Bush wastending towards a troop increase, in contrast to recommendations by ahigh-profile report that suggest the US start pulling back its140,000 soldiers there. That recommendation came last week, as part of an overview of USinvolvement in Iraq by a panel co-chaired by former US secretary ofstate James Baker III. The report also urged the US to relaunchMiddle East peacemaking and seek talks with Syria and Iran. The president has said he would weigh the panel's report, but hasalso sought ideas from other areas including his own comprehensiveinternal review of his Iraq strategy. Options include up to 50,000 more troops, but any number above20,000 to 30,000 troops is unlikely, the report said. The additional troops could be achieved by deploying some soldiersto the region earlier and keeping others there longer than planned.--SPA www.spa.gov.sa/411544
