Iran's Ahmadinejad plans to attend UN Security Council meeting

Tehran, MARCH 11, SPA -- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said hewishes to personally appear before the United Nations SecurityCouncil in New York in order to defend his country's nuclear rights,reports said Sunday, REPORTED DPA. Iranian news agency ISNA quoted government spokesman Gholam-Hossein Elham as saying that Ahmadinejad intends to attend a SecurityCouncil meeting to be held in order to discuss the internationaldispute over Iran's nuclear programme. No details were given on when such a meeting could take place. Iran is facing the possibility of further sanctions due to itscontinued refusal to halt uranium enrichment as called for by UNSecurity Council Resolution 1737. International governments chief among them the United Statesaccuse Tehran of nuclear weapons ambitions, however Iran insists onits right to peaceful nuclear technology under the terms of theNuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.--SPA www.spa.gov.sa/431729
