United Nations, June 16, SPA -- Pakistani Ambassador to the U.N. Munir Akram announced Thursday that Pakistan would put forth a candidate to succeed current U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan “in the coming months.” India officially announced today Shashi Tharoor as its official candidate for the post. Annan’s second term ends on December 31 of this year, and the Security Council is currently holding informal meetings as to who the future Secretary-General will be. Many countries favor a regional rotation, and Asia is considered the next region up for the position. Secretary-General selection should occur by October, according to sources. --SPA 16/06/2006 13:04 ت م www.spa.gov.sa/369041
