Two rebels, policeman killed in battle in Afghanistan

Kabul, Dec 22, SPA -- A patrol of coalition forces andAfghan police came under attack in central Afghanistan,triggering a shootout that left two rebels dead and threeinjured, the U.S. military and an Afghan official saidThursday. An Afghan policeman also died in late Wednesday'sgun battle in the Andar district of Ghazni province, saidBrig. Gen. James Champion, deputy commanding general of theU.S. military's task force. He said the Afghan National Police and coalition forcesrepelled the attack and discovered a cache of munitions. "This attack by enemy forces, like many of their attacks,was a failure," Champion was quoted as saying by The Associated Press. Yousuf Stanekzai, spokesman for the Afghan InteriorMinistry, said coalition soldiers and Afghan policemen werepatrolling in Ghazni, 125 kilometers (75 miles) southwestof the capital, Kabul, when 15 rebels attacked.
