Pakistan's Foreign Minister leaves for Saudi Arabia

Islamabad, Dec 4, SPA -- Pakistan's Foreign Minister Khurshid Kasuri leaves for Saudi Arabia Monday to attend a meeting of the OIC Foreign Ministers being held in the Kingdom in connection with the forthcoming third extraordinary OIC Summit, officials said. The ministerial meeting will finalise the agenda for the summit to be held in Makkah on December 7 and 8. President General Pervez Musharraf will head Pakistan's delegation at the summit. The summit will adopt a ten-year Programme of Action to provide a new vision for the Muslim world and reinvigorate the OIC to play a more active role to project the cause of the Muslim Ummah (nation). It will focus on the position of Ummah in the contemporary world, the challenges posed by globalization and the need for good governance. The summit would also consider the issues of Islamic thought, culture and education and the concept of moderation in Islam. The need to promote cultural exchanges as a way forward to set new priorities and goals for Ummah in the areas of Islamic thought, education and cultural affairs to meet the challenge of modern times will be considered at the Makkah summit and it will help to project the real essence of Islam to the world and promote dialogue of civilizations.
